Ersilia Verlinghieri is a PhD student at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds, UK. She holds a master degree in Applied Mathematics. She is currently researching about tools for Participation in Transport Planning with a particular attention to contested domains. Using participatory methodology she is exploring how to deep involve the more disadvantaged groups in the   transport planning process, recognising how accessibility in the city is a core way to equity.  The groups she is has been working with are situated in L’Aquila, an Italian city in deep crisis after an earthquake in 2009 and in Rio de Janeiro, where most of the initial claims under the June upraise were for a more equal public transport system.
