CONTESTED_CITIES is an international interdisciplinary network of researchers from Europe and Latin America (Madrid, Leeds, Mexico City, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Quito and Rio de Janeiro). We research processes, consequences and resistance to neoliberal urban politics in Europe and Latin America. We focus on aspects of residential and retail gentrification, displacement, privatisation of housing as well as strategies of resistance and re-appropriation of urban space by counter-hegemonic social movements. We have been developing innovative action-research and audio-visual methodologies. It is funded by the European Commission Marie Curie programme between 2012 and 2016. At this conference we will present our findings and open up a dialogue with colleagues, practitioners and activists from across all continents.
